CHIENGE COUNCILORS CRACK DOWN ON DELINQUENT CONTRACTORS

Chienge, Zambia – July 25, 2025 – The Chienge Town Council held an ordinary Council meeting at the Civic Center on 25th July 2025, where crucial issues affecting the community were discussed.

In a heated debate and in a bid to address delays in community projects, the Council resolved to heighten measures to hold delinquent contractors accountable.

This means that Contractors who abandon projects will be reported to the Zambia police to allow the law to take its course.

The Council has further resolved that contractors with more than three projects should not be awarded new contracts and only those who can deliver projects within time should be given such an opportunity.

Some community projects such as Kabendwe and Puta Primary Schools have delayed completion and have since been an audit query.

During the meeting, Councilors expressed concerns on the increased number of dog bites and wanted to know how far the Council has progressed with Dog cropping in the district.

Munwa Ward Councilor, Famous Chelu questioned the lack of the presence of officers in Mununga, while Councilor Clement Mutale of Chibamba Ward called for proof of the cropped dogs. The councilors emphasized the need for quick action to address the issue of stray dog bites in their areas and safeguard the community from rabies and many other diseases.

Responding to the concerns, Acting Council Secretary, Mr. Jonas Mwendakawa, reported that 21 stray dogs have been cropped in Lambwe Chomba area this year, and veterinary officers are currently working with the Zambia Police in Mununga area where the exercise has continued.

The meeting that started at 10:20 hours in the morning was closed at 15:00 hours by the Council Chairperson, who urged management and Councilors to disseminate accurate information to the community and explain issues where the community was not clear.
