LUNCHINDA SECONDARY SCHOOL SEEKS EXPANSION FOLLOWING ENROLLMENT BOOST
Thursday, October 31, 2024. Chienge, Luapula Province – Sub Chief Twaileta of the Bwile people has praised the New Dawn government’s free education policy, citing a significant increase in enrollment at Lunchinda Secondary School.
Enrollment at the school has risen from 500 to 713 grade 8-12 pupils in 2024, a testament to the policy’s impact. As head teacher, Sub Chief Twaileta has witnessed firsthand the benefits of the Education policy and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation.
The 2022 CDF allocation has funded a modern 1×2 science laboratory at Lunchinda Secondary School valued at Six Hundred Twenty-Two Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty-Eight kwacha and Sixty-Four Ngwee (K622,468.64) with 100 stools which has shifted the learning methodology from theoretical to practical. The New Dawn administration’s increased CDF allocation from 1.6 million to 36.2 million, has also provided 100 desks and modern ablution blocks for boys and girls with flushable toilets at the school.
Sub Chief Twaileta has hailed the CDF as a historical game-changer, bringing improved sanitation and a conducive learning environment. He commended President Hakainde Hichilema for actualizing campaign promises, such as increased CDF, free education, and better infrastructure.
However, the school still faces challenges, including inadequate learning space and to this effect, the Sub Chief has gone ahead to lobbying for a 1×4 classroom block to accommodate the growing student population.
He says working with the community the school is currently constructing a block which will house design technology and home economics facilities and that the project is currently at slab level. The Sub Chief has since appealed to the government to adopt these projects through CDF to spur development. He has also highlighted the need for an assembly hall and administration block.
“We are grateful for the government’s support, but we require additional infrastructure to cater to our growing student population,” Sub Chief Twaileta said.
He has further called on stakeholders to come on board and assist in developing the school and creating a better environment for the learners.
Lunchinda Secondary School is poised for greater success, providing quality education to the children of Chienge District and indeed requires stakeholders’ support.
