CHIENGE DISTRICT LAUNCHES THE 2025 NATIONAL CHILD HEALTH WEEK.
Chienge District, Luapula Province 29th June 2025 – Chienge District Commissioner Rosemary Chikonde has officially launched the Child Health Week in Chienge District, emphasizing the importance of protecting and nurturing the youngest members of the community.
Ms. Chikonde stated that children are not just the future, but also the present, and that what is done today will shape the health, strength, and potential of the nation for decades to come. She highlighted that the Child Health Week is not just about routine check-ups or vaccines, but about investing in life, hope, and ensuring that every child has a healthy start, regardless of where they are born.
The District Commissioner emphasized that this year’s theme, “Building Resilient Systems for Universal Health,” reminds everyone that a strong and resilient country cannot be built without healthy children. She noted that every child, from those in bustling urban compounds to those in remote villages, deserves the right to survive, thrive, and dream.
During the week, health workers will deliver life-saving interventions, including immunizations against deadly diseases like measles and polio, vitamin A supplementation, deworming tablets, growth monitoring, and health education for parents.
Ms. Chikonde extended her gratitude to health workers, partners, and parents who have stepped forward to protect their children’s lives, emphasizing that their efforts matter and save lives. She urged the community to spread the word and encourage every mother, caregiver, and guardian to bring their child for these vital services, ensuring that no child is left behind.
The District Commissioner emphasized that health is a right, not a privilege, and called for continued collaboration between government, civil society, and the community to ensure that children are protected, healthy, and full of promise.
With this, she declared the Child Health Week officially launched, hoping that it will mark not just a moment, but a movement – a daily commitment to the health and well-being of the children in Chienge District.
