Chienge Town Council has officially handed over the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) empowerment loans to over 70 beneficiaries, with a total value exceeding three million kwacha. The ceremony, held at the Chienge Civic Center on January 16, 2026, was attended by a distinguished gathering that included the District Commissioner, Mrs. Rosemary Mwiche Chikonde, Chienge district Acting Council Secretary Mr. Robert Chabinga, Member of Parliament, Hon. Given Newa Katuta was represent by her personal assistant Mr. Luckson Mwape, Council Chairperson, Mr. Francis Mwanto, Heads of departments, ward councilors and other valued guests.
In her address as guest of honor, District Commissioner Mrs. Rosemary Chikonde expressed her pride and gratitude, highlighting the significance of the occasion as a milestone in the community’s journey toward economic empowerment and development. She commended the Constituency Development Fund Committee and the Chienge Town Council for their dedicated efforts and transparency throughout the process. She also praised their collaboration with NATSAVE Bank in conducting financial literacy sessions for the beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of responsible borrowing.
Mrs. Chikonde congratulated the beneficiaries, noting that the disbursed funds are intended to empower them to create profitable ventures, achieve self-sufficiency, and improve their livelihoods. She announced that some beneficiaries had already received their funds into their bank accounts, with remaining beneficiaries scheduled to receive their loans soon. She urged all recipients to utilize the funds prudently and diligently.
The District Commissioner linked this initiative to the visionary leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, who since 2021 has steadily increased CDF allocations to support community development efforts. She provided a brief overview of the funding increases over recent years, culminating in the planned increase to K40 million per constituency in 2026—an indication of the government’s strong commitment to rural development and community empowerment.
Mrs. Chikonde emphasized that the loans are a tool to foster sustainable growth, urging beneficiaries to pay back their loans on time to ensure the continuity and expansion of the program. She assured the community of ongoing support and encouraged beneficiaries to seek assistance from the Chienge Town Council if they encounter challenges.
Speaking at the same even, chienge Council Chairperson, Mr. Francis Mwanto, highlighted the importance of community participation in development projects. He pointed to successful initiatives such as the solar-powered district hospital and the upgraded rural health post, which exemplify the tangible benefits of collective effort and good governance.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Mervis Mulenga, a beneficiary of the program. Mrs. Mulenga urged her fellow beneficiaries not to disappoint the authorities by misusing the funds.
